diverse thoughts while watching…

When we are random people who watch a movie, we are generally criticize it with basic knowledges. However, I feel that the best way to be immersed into a movie is to really get into it through technical manners. Here, a quick summary of my studies at UCLA Extension.

First of all the narrative process which combines the cause and effect, the time, the space, the opening, closing and the patterns of development or even the flow of the story. Indeed, it is essential to analyze the impact that the character has on the story. We may see an example through " Little Woods" where Ollie is literally the one who creates the objectif. Then the time and the space need to be evaluate in order to increase our expectations, emotions and feelings about the scene. Each movies have their own specificity such as " Inception", Christopher Nolan chooses a wild range of elements that show us a futurist and fantastic world. In addition, a classical Hollywood narrative has to be settled through a beginning, a middle and a end with clarity and unity. Finally the flow of the story that means which point of view are we following, which perceptive we have to get to follow the meaning of the movie.

Then, there is the mise-en-scene's point of view such as the setting where it is demonstrated that the location, the environment, the props are so important to be concentred and immersed into the movie. After that, we should analyze the acting, the performances of the characters and how they bring emotions and feelings. Is it helped by their costumes, makeup ? Yes it is, those elements are vital for an actors to get into his character.

After that, the impact of the cinematography is essential. Here, we may talk about the range of tonality, the exposure, the speed of motion, the framing and the use of "off-screen" as well as the analyze of the depth of field, the camera position or even how the camera move might change the entire shot and emotions.

Those elements are important if you are passionated about movies and if you want to improve your love for watching them.
