Is it more representative of what film is and does than other techniques such as narrative, mise-en-scene, cinematography, and sound? Or are all these techniques equally vital to a definition of what makes up cinema?
As far as I am concerned, all these techniques are essential in order to create what we must call a movie. Some techniques are easier to catch from a simple viewer's point of view than other which are less relevant. A movie is an overall of emotions, feelings and expectations made through multiple manners such as the narrative ( what the story is telling ), the mise-en-scene ( how the scene is organized), the cinematography ( which perceptive the filmmaker choose to depict his goal within the frame) and the sound ( wakes up our emotions and increase the impact of the action). Each element has a particular goal on making the greatest movie and reaching the attention of the spectators.
Each scenes or shots are different and each of them brings another information or emotion that it is primordial in order to keep the audience attracted and interested. Moreover, as Human, our sensibility to the sound is crucial in a movie and increase the impact of the action on us. For example, the scene in “ Birds of Prey “ when Margot Robbie and the other girls are fighting against the enemies, the scene is very strong and moves a lot and it is increased by the sound which adds more excitement, fear and suspense. Same example, the shape, the colors, the mise-en-scene and the movement of the camera is vital in this scene and it why I support the idea that all these elements gathered create a very talented content.
In my opinion, when we are watching a movie, we are attracted by the overall of the story and all the emotions that we are going through.
However, when we watch the movie deeper we realize how many hidden-elements allow it, some of them are less perceivable, for example the way the camera or the lighting is used or even the way the character's and their emotions are transmitted. For instance, in an horror movie we are very concentrated on the fear and suspense that we feel but if we analyze the scene there is much more to perceive. Alfred Hitchcock was on of those talented directors who brings an amount of techniques such as lighting and sound into the cinema.
These elements are understandable when we are aware of their functions. After that, it is impossible to avoid analyzing each scenes of a movie and it is why I confirm that each techniques used in the creation of a movie makes up cinema.

Give you opinion as well ! It is interested to see how people think !
